There’s so much to love about the summer; long sunny days, relaxing holidays and fun times with the special people in your life.

At Love Summer, we’re all about celebrating our favourite season… all year round! We shine a light on where, when and what in the world is hot right now.

So if you’re looking to lose yourself in the very best that summer has to offer, you’re in the right place.

Here are our top 10 favourite things. Let us know yours!

  1. Long, sunny days… clear, starry skies

Who doesn’t feel more motivated and energised in the summer? There’s so much more time available during all of those extra hours of daylight… for both work and play.

An intoxicating blend of sunshine, fresh air and outdoor living gives us a real glow and the health benefits are amazing.  The sun encourages the release of endorphins, aka feel-good hormones, which does wonders for our overall happiness and well-being.

And be sure to find some time to enjoy those balmy evenings once the sun has gone down. Pour yourself a glass of wine, head out to the garden and look up – warmer nights produce an abundance of stars in the clearest of skies.

  1. Alfresco dining and drinking

Food tastes so much better when it’s enjoyed outside in the sunshine. Whether it’s a summer BBQ, picnic in the park, garden party or a beach-side restaurant, you can’t beat sharing a delicious outdoor meal with your favourite people.

Stay well hydrated on long, hot days with fresh, cool water and then you can safely enjoy a favourite tipple or two in the sunshine. Meeting friends for a cheeky afternoon or early evening drink as the sun goes down is one of life’s great pleasures.

  1. B.E.A.C.H. (Best Escape Anyone Can Have)

Long summer days at the beach… swimming in the sea, sandy sandwiches and family games of cricket, rounders and boules… is there anything better?

Or treat yourself to the luxury of a solo day out; a chance to get away, chill out, feel the sun on your skin, the sand between your toes and the salty sea breeze in your hair. Pure bliss.

There’s something so restorative about the beach, looking out to sea and listening to the waves. It’s the perfect chance to relax, reflect and… eat ice cream.

  1. A healthy dose of Vitamin D

Vitamin D, also known as the sunshine vitamin, is produced by the body in response to your skin being exposed to sunlight. A healthy dose of sunshine can:

  • improve mood
  • deepen sleep
  • help skin conditions
  • lower blood pressure
  • strengthen the immune system
  • help bone growth.

Too much sun exposure without the right protection can of course be harmful. Healthcare professionals recommend enjoying 10-20 minutes in the sun before you reach for the sunscreen to get the most from the benefits above.

  1. Lose the layers

One of the best things about summer is losing the layers. Goodbye to bulky, winter clothes and hello to floaty frocks and flip flops, cami vests and shorts, sunhats and shades.

Treat yourself to a spot of pampering with a pedicure and free those winter feet. It feels amazing after months in tights, socks and shoes. A wise person once said if you’re not barefoot in summer then you’re overdressed.

Whatever your summer style – boho chic, nautical stripes, or bold brights – dress to feel fresh, cool and comfortable.

  1. Dare to bare confidence

Sun-kissed skin and a sexy summer glow means minimal make up required and more time for fun. We love the barely there make up look in summer; a bit of shimmer, mascara and lip gloss and you’re ready to go.

Be as carefree as you like with your hair – you can totally get away with the mantra ‘beach hair, don’t care’. Wear it up or wear it down, with your favourite earrings, bare shoulders and own the inner confidence that summer brings!

  1. QT with family and friends

Summer is all about quality time with family and friends, making the most of outdoor living and long, lazy alfresco meals. Mix all of that together and it’s the perfect recipe for creating special memories with those that you love.

Catching up with old friends or getting to know new ones, there’s something magical about summer socialising and the way it brings people together. It gets us outside, allows us to make the most of nature, appreciate our surroundings and be thankful for the longer days and lighter evenings.

  1. The taste of summer

When summer arrives it’s time to make way for the abundance of delicious, seasonal fruit and veggies available.

We’re talking breakfast fruit platters of refreshing watermelon, juicy mango, fresh berries, and tropical papaya… what a way to start your morning!

And for later in the day, fire up the BBQ for a crowd-pleasing dish of colourful, seasoned veggies; smoky aubergine, chargrilled peppers, crunchy corn on the cob and amazing home-grown salads. Remember to keep a section of the BBQ free for pudding; grilled peaches, mango and pineapple with boozy mascarpone is to die for.

  1. Summer soundtracks

Ahhh, the sweet sounds of summer… a classic holiday tune can stir up all sorts of happy memories.

Summer tracks have the power to take you back to hot Ibizan party nights, a sizzling holiday romance, or that nostalgic road trip with friends driving with the roof down and the stereo turned up high.

Whatever’s on your essential summer playlist, mellow beach bar vibes or pumping dance tracks, it’s all the sweeter if accompanied by a beautiful sunset and good company.

  1.   A little bit of R&R

Who doesn’t look forward to a summer holiday to enjoy some much-needed rest and relaxation in the sun? It’s the perfect chance to unwind and recharge the batteries.

Feeling the warmth on your skin, day-time snoozing, swimming and losing yourself in a good novel are right up there on our list of holiday highlights. Not to mention soaking up the amazing smells, tastes, sights and cultures of somewhere new.

It’s good for the soul and makes you feel well and truly alive.
